Guess who are the happiest, wealthiest and arguably most informed people in the UK? Guess who buy the most cosmetics, luxury holidays, who have more free time and, what’s more, have an appetite to explore with it?

Why, yes indeed, it is perennial women (AKA “women over 40”). Yet, despite being in our prime of life we are invisible or, at worst, misrepresented by many youth-obsessed brands, media, and society.

It goes without saying that we live in a world that seems obsessed with age. The youthful images of young women are used to every product we use, but whilst brands continue to showcase images of the young and very young, their products are often being used by women in decades older than the face on the display.

For many, “age” has been a dirty word and things get really murky the closer the tides of time move towards “40”. In the past, a 40-year-old woman was sent to the proverbial pasture where she was expected to chop off her hair, lower her hemline and move into the winter of her life quietly as she became invisible to the dating world, brand owners, and sometimes even to herself.

This, in many ways, was a violent act against all women as those who hit 40 were punished for aging whilst other women were instructed to grip onto their 20’s and 30’s while they were still relevant. Thankfully, we have made some progress, but there is still much more to go. Yes, more 40+ women are showcasing their vibrancy, experience, ambition, and wealth but it’s still too difficult for them to gain access to the brand owners who create the products she wants and needs to live her best life as her best self.

We are SuperHuman are looking to change that with a very special event Why it doesn’t pay to ignore Perennial Women on Thursday 14th September 2017 4-7pm at the Twitter HQ in London.

Hosted by the directors of women’s agency SuperHuman and the fabulous Kate Thornton, in partnership with The-pool and TBSeen, this event will bring together some of the biggest names and minds in media to discuss middle-age is coming of age and most importantly how your brand can be part of it.
