100 Years to close the gender pay gap? At SuperHuman we say bugger that13 Nov 2017, Posted by Work in
THE GENDER PAY GAP
You would have to have been tucked up in rehab with Harvey this week not to have noticed the gender pay gap outrage on the news agenda. What is interesting is that it comes at the same time as the much-covered ‘outing’ of Denise Coats of Bet365 as Britain’s highest earning female entrepreneur with her £100 million income. Quite the paradox. What it does highlight is that we not only have a gender pay gap but also a gap between the ‘normals’ and the super achievers.
Data show that it is going to take 100 years to catch up with the blokes, never mind the Denise Coats’ and Helena Morrisseys’ who are leaving us for dust. At SuperHuman we think differently.
Those that don’t want to wait ’till 2117 need to create their OWN future and there are plenty of opportunities for enterprising brands to get stuck in and help.
HOW BRANDS CAN HELP WOMEN CREATE THEIR OWN FUTURE
If you don’t like the heat, well, get out of the kitchen. This takes guts and confidence is an area where women, particularly, need a little support. Creating experiences where women can come together and support each other can be incredibly rewarding for the fledgling and accomplished entrepreneur. Workshops and events set up or sponsored by brands, whether fashion, beauty or personal finance are becoming the fabric of the ‘new business’ dynamic.
Fact. There are huge gaps in resources available to women. When we spoke to 200 women in The Connective, our unique network of female influencers and community leaders, they highlighted a tangible need for support from financial information to mentoring to fashion advice.
Harriet Minter of Talk Radio’s Badass Women’s Hour talks about the need for women to share information to help tackle the gender gap. There is no doubt information is power and women most definitely seek community and collaboration in life and business. Creating places, spaces and networking experiences, whether on the ground or in the cloud, is a fantastic opportunity for brands to help women and form deeper engagement.
